What's happening at your county chapter?


ORTA's county chapters play an important role in supporting Ohio’s retired educators through pension advocacy, networking opportunities, member benefits, and community involvement.

Some chapters offer classroom grants and student scholarships. Joining your local chapter is a great way to stay informed, connected, and engaged during retirement.

The Medina County Retired Teachers Association will hold its third luncheon meeting of 2026 at noon Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Williams on the Lake, 787 Lafayette Road, Medina. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.


Attendees are encouraged to bring a friend to reconnect with former colleagues, make new acquaintances, hear guest speakers, learn about one-day bus trips, support classroom teacher grants and a scholarship for a local education student, and enjoy other activities during the program.


The buffet luncheon costs $16. Reservations are due by Aug. 1 and may be made by contacting J. Zurrell, 2901 Hamlin Road, Medina, OH 44256, or by calling 330-723-2364. Checks should be made payable to MCRTA.

Sail with Portage County Teachers on Cleveland’s Goodtime III on August 20.


Meet Thomas Limousine at Meijer (Brimfield) parking lot Area G at 12:30.

 

Board the Goodtime III for a two-hour cruise departing at 2:30 – food available.

 

Cost for transportation and the cruise is $80.00.  [Cancelled if insufficient reservations.]

The Geauga County Retired Teachers Association will meet Aug. 4, at Veterans Legacy Woods’ Freedom Hall, 14085 Ravenna Road in Newbury Township.


Social time is at 11:15 a.m., followed  by the business meeting at 11:30 and a potluck lunch at noon. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and their own silverware/plate, according to a news release. Pulled-pork sandwiches and water will be provided, or attendees can bring their own beverage.


The program will feature updates from this year’s Education Grant winners.

The Van Wert Area Retired Teachers Association (VWARTA) will meet on at noon on Friday, July 10, for a summer luncheon program and learning experience at the Van Wert campus of Northwest State Community College, 520 E. Sycamore St. The main entrance is on the west side of the building and parking is available in the lot across the street from that main entrance.


The guest speaker will be Dr. Jon Tomlinson, Dean of the NSCC Van Wert  Campus, who will share information about its programs in the Van Wert area. He will also show attendees a STEM Camp that is being conducted on the campus site and the activities being taught relating to coding.
