ORTA county chapters serve as grassroots hubs for retired educators. They primarily focus on pension advocacy, providing community networking opportunities, and delivering local member benefits.

ORTA county chapters offer a variety of opportunities for their members:

• Pension Advocacy and Updates: County chapters frequently host guest speakers—often ORTA state directors or Executive Council members. These presentations provide crucial updates regarding the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS), lobbying efforts in the state legislature, and updates on Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLA).

• Social and Professional Networking: Members meet regularly—often via luncheons or scheduled meetings—to socialize with former colleagues, stay connected to the educational community, and share stories. 

• Community and Civic Engagement: Many county chapters engage in community volunteer work, charitable fundraising, and grassroots political action to protect member pensions and endorse friendly candidates during local and state elections. 

• Scholarships and Grants: Many local chapters offer scholarships and classroom grants to students and teachers in local school districts.

• Supplemental Benefits: County chapters work with AMBA to connect retirees with supplemental health, dental, and vision insurance options, and Passport Unlimited for savings at hundreds of retailers and services
