more to give? Think Peace Corps!
On the cusp of its 50th
anniversary, Peace Corps is actively recruiting skilled educators and teacher trainers for volunteer positions in over 70
countries around the world. Peace Corps was established in the name of international friendship and understanding
by President John F. Kennedy, and since 1961 over 200,000 Americans have dedicated two years of their lives providing valuable
skills and education to people in 139 countries in the developing world.
Contrary
to popular belief, Peace Corps has no upper age limit, and of the 1,135 Columbus-area residents who have served as Peace Corps
Volunteers, 70 of these served when they were over the age of 50.
Peace Corps Education Volunteers:
· Work as primary and secondary education classroom instructors.
· Work with community partners, school systems, and ministries of education to develop curricula
· Use classrooms as a launching point for teaching about other Peace Corps initiatives including
health, environment, agriculture, small business and community development
